Wan Tahir merupakan orang yang mengajar ilmu salah, berasal dari Kampung Duyung, Seberang Takir. Beliau dijatuhkan hukuman oleh Sultan Zainal Abidin III atas kesalahan berkenaan dan diarak selama 13 hari di sekeliling bandar Kuala Terengganu. Kemudiannya beliau menjalani hukuman penjara atas kesalahan berkenaan.

Peristiwa mengarak beliau disaksikan oleh penduduk Terengganu. Tujuan mengarak orang yang salah adalah supaya orang lain melihatnya merasa takut dan malu untuk melakukan perkara yang serupa. Perarakan seperti ini diiringi dengan upacara memukul canang.
